background

Graduated in Journalism, Pablo Vallejos has worked as a reporter, press officer, and copywriter in advertising agencies, marketing firms, and newspapers in Rio de Janeiro. In a parallel trajectory, he has been a professional photographer and an audiovisual director since 2008.

As an undergraduate, he conducted a study on newsworthiness criteria, focusing on TV Globo’s coverage of three major disasters in the 2000s. Later, during his specialization in Communication and Image, he analyzed representations in documentary cinema, examining their intersections with philosophy and sociology.

During his master's and doctoral studies, Vallejos developed the research “Life Expansion”, divided into two parts, which observes contemporary videogames, social media and visual culture and reflects on the construction of representations in digital environments.

research

Pablo Vallejos holds a PhD in Communication from PUC-Rio (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro), Brazil. His main areas of academic research include image, identity, representation, fiction in contemporary culture, and digital autobiography. Within these fields, he explores the dynamics between humans and machines—from everyday practices and media consumption to their implications for identity construction, perception of reality, and memory.

In 2025, Vallejos began the release of his forthcoming book, “Life Expansion: Technologies, Images, and Fictions”.

He is also developing “Chasing Reality”, a new research project focused on the blurred boundaries between fiction and reality across various objects of analysis—from contemporary series and films to generative AI practices for photos and videos—while critically reflecting on trust, disinformation, and control in the twenty-first century.
